Cute little spot in the mountains that hits the spot if you have a sushi craving. Service was good & we found our "usuals" on the menu. Fish was fresh but here are the cons: miso soup was flavorless, sushi rice was dry, the wasabi had no kick and no hotate/small scallop on the menu. They do a good job here and the price point is okay.

A Truckee staple. My boyfriend and I were lucky to get in! The sushi chef was extremely helpful and chatted with us as he made some amazing sushi and helped guide us in the direction of the right rolls for us. I loved every single role that we tried extremely fresh and flavorful love the vibe of the restaurant with the disco ball very cozy while being trendy and upbeat. The restaurant was also very clean. The only dish that I was not a big fan of was the gyoza it was very fried, however my boyfriend loved it! Will 100% come back! It is pricey but worth it, sushi was excellent.

We eat here everytime we're in Truckee. Service is great. Food is consistent and delicious. It's clean and well decorated.

Had a sushi craving and decided on Maki Ali because, why not?! Although the small dining room was very busy when we arrived, we were seated as soon as we walked in by a warm and friendly host/waitress. I ordered a Sapporo and miso soup (top 5 miso's I've eaten, SOOOO flavorful!). She came back with the beer and soup to take the food order and when asked about the menu, she was super duper knowledgeable. Pretty sure if I gave her a pop quiz on the menu, she'd get an A+, she knew her sh!t! I was craving a specific roll and since they didn't have it, she had the chefie make a special roll for me with crunchies on top (which I didn't realize until it arrived, how sweet of her!) I also requested spicy tuna with crispy rice and they didn't have it so she suggested the shark attack which had Serrano pepper, yowza! Perfect :) We also ordered a hand roll, the Tsunami Roll, Yellowtail Sashimi and vegetable tempura. The Tsunami Roll was mildly flavored and had a nice crunch from the shrimp tempura then, the vegetable tempura, it was the same as anywhere else. Not much anyone can do to juj up fried veggies however, the yellow tail? Ohhhmagawshhhh... YEAH BABY, so perfect!! The sauce was tangy, flavorful and excellent pairing with the sashimi. It came with 6 pieces and I could have eaten 15 more (yep, oink oink) it was that good! We made one final order at the end of dinner, can't remember the name but I think it was the Dragon Balls (see photo). The only word that comes to mind for this dish is, interesting. It's cooked, sits on a slice of orange and has creme cheese as well as shrimp (I think it's shrimp, but not entirely sure). You eat it all in one bite, CHOMP! Extra points if you have a big mouth, this is for you, haha! Over all, the experience at Maki Ali was exceptional. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the friendly and knowledgeable wait staff and the sushi was tasty. If you're in the area and craving sushi, give this place a visit and make sure to get the yellowtail sashimi it's LEGIT, no lie.
